School Vacation Week at the Gardiner Public Library

We had a wonderfully full school vacation week here in the library. Story time & crafts were on Tuesday morning at 10:30, then a Bugs, Bugs, Bugs program & craft with L.C. Bates Museum in the afternoon funded by Crossroads Youth Center and through a generous grant received by the Maine Community Foundation.  Thursday was an Origami Fish Folding Workshop.  Each program had a great number of people in attendance. Programs in the Children’s Room

We have some great children’s groups that meet during the week. Maybe you can join us sometime. Tuesday @ 10:30 is Storytime. I read 3 to 4 books and have a song to go along with the stories. Then we do a craft each week with the help of a volunteer. This helps the children with their fine motor skills. We cut or paste or paint. Anything to keep our hands and minds busy.   Tuesday, February 16th, @ 10:30 we have a special event by Tina Wood. She will tell a fishy tale of the alewives swimming home on Cobbossee …

Giraffes In The Library!

The children’s room of the Gardiner Public Library has recently received a large quantity of new LEGO building pieces through the largess of the LEGO Company & distributed by the Maine State Library Emergent/Family Literacy and Children’s Services Department.     We plan to sponsor a monthly club giving children (adults too) a theme or idea of something to create using the blocks.  Our first creations were “Giraffes”.  We have 7 delightful examples on display & hopefully more will be built during the month of November. Summer Reading Wrap Up

Congratulations to all the children and young adults who participated in our Summer Reading Program “Dream Big Read”.  There were 126 of you who read an outstanding number of books between June 18th and August 4th.  Gift certificates, Sea Dogs vouchers, Old Fort Western passes and grab bag prizes were among the rewards.  Many children participated in our weekly story hour and craft times as well.  New fairy houses were built and taken to the Fairy Village to replace those destroyed by vandals earlier this year.      Great job everyone!
