Farewell From Scott

A lot has changed in the library world since I started here 40 years ago in 1981.  We’ve gone from paper card catalogs to electronic retrieval.  I’ve been here through floods, downtown fires, ice storms, Celebrity Who Reads What lists, and many a blizzard. I have been very lucky in those 40 years of change.  I have had the good fortune to work with two wonderful directors: Glenna Nowell for 10 years and Anne Davis for 30 years.  Both of these wonderful directors allow their staff to shine in their position and grow professionally. Story & Craft Time Tuesday, Feb. 18th & 25th We will have a story, songs and a craft at 10:00 am for preschoolers.   Free Movie night at the Gardiner Public Library Born in China Thursday, February 20th Movie starts at 6:00 pm Doors open at 5:30 pm Children must be accompanied by an adult. What’s Going On?!?!?!

  Over the next couple of weeks, we have several irons in the fire. National Library Week is celebrated from April 10 – 16 this year.  We have a display of “library” related books for your perusal. The ALA (American Library Association) theme for the week is “Libraries Transform Lives”.  As part of the promotional campaign, we have blank “speech bubbles” available for folks to let us know how a library may have transformed your life!  Next time you’re in the library, pick up one at the desk, and we’ll add it to our on-going display! Special Bookplates at Gardiner Public Library

Have you ever noticed some of the amazing bookplates in our books?  If you haven’t, please take a moment and check inside the front of Gardiner Public Library books.  We have what I would consider some pretty special bookplates. Once you begin to notice them, you may wonder who? what? why? and or how? do we get one of these beautiful bookplates?  These special bookplates were all created for endowed or memorial funds.  This type of fund is set up to celebrate a life, a family event or a professional achievement.
