The Library

Recently in the Children’s Room, a very young patron exclaimed to me, “The library… is…. GRRREAT!”  He could hardly contain his excitement at the discovery of such a wonderful, magnificent place.  His enthusiasm reminded me of when I was little and used to spend HOURS at the public library, quite content in a comfy corner with a pile of books.  The library was truly the best place! So, yes, dear one, the library IS great!  It is a place where people of all ages can explore, interact, and imagine.  Libraries help foster a lifelong love of reading.  It’s a place …

35 Years, 3 Generations of Families, Some Amazingly Wonderful Patrons.

Where did the years go? As I begin my retirement, there are certain things of which I am sure. I will deeply miss: The wonderful Gardiner Library staff.  Our collaboration, laughter, problem solving, and friendship goes far beyond most working environments. Together we have made GPL one of the premier libraries in the state. You are the Best! Selecting books for the children’s collection. School visits with dedicated teachers. Meetings & conferences with colleagues. And finally, all the energetic, super terrific children whom I’ve had the privilege to watch grow up and become readers.  Thank you all! And a special …

Ladies Literary Overnight

Recently we had our second annual Ladies Literary Sleepover in the library – yes, we did it a second time! Eighteen women had fun in the library, after hours.  We talked, we ate, we laughed, we ate, we played games, we talked, we visited, we ate, we slept (a little) and we got up and did it all again! The ladies began arriving around 7:00, munchies and sleeping bags in hand.  We set up our buffet of yummies in the Young Adult Room, and YUMMIES they were!  We had blueberries, chips, fruit, salad, pizza, eggs, soda and chocolate (it’s not …
