Who is who at the Gardiner Public Library?

As the director of this wonderful institution called the Gardiner Public Library, I get to supervise some wonderful staff members.  Do you know everyone who works at the library? A library is only as good as the staff that works within the institution and Gardiner’s employees are such a dedicated bunch.  Scott Handville, our assistant director, makes me look good every day by his professionalism, his kindness and yes, his sense of humor and wonderful laugh!  Charlene Wagner passionately advocates for the kids in our community by creatively hooking them with books and making them lifelong readers, and, lifelong supporters …

Is it that time of year again?

As the director of the Gardiner Public Library, one of my duties includes advocating for library services.  Most times it really isn’t a duty at all; it is a joy to talk to people about what a library means to them.  Really, how can you say anything bad about a public library?  Where else can you walk into a place, grab something off the shelves, check it out and do all of this for free?  Obviously nothing is really “free” and library items are no exception.  It costs money to run a library; do you have any idea …

That is what the name of it is. And when you’ve got it, you want – oh, you don’t quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!” Mark Twain (1835-1910)

Books to Movies

I don’t know about you, but I’m interested to know which books will eventually become movies.  It always fascinates me to see who plays who in a movie version of a book that I have enjoyed.  The settings, and how they are designed, the clothing, the hairstyles, all pieces that I have “seen” in my mind, but how will these be portrayed? So far, I am aware of 16 books that have been, or are being made into movies for release in 2014.  Let’s see what they are . . . Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.  25 years after her …
