Celebrating Labor Day

In recent years Labor Day has lost some of its old, and original, meanings, but it still stands as the one day in which we celebrate an important American belief.  This belief is in the importance and necessity of hard work to achieve success.  Once a holiday tied to the militancy of the Labor movement, Labor Day now honors all who work. Oregon was the first state to recognize Labor Day officially on February 2, 1887.  President Grover Cleveland signed a congressional bill on June 28, 1894, making Labor Day a legal holiday. RiverFest Activities!

Waterfront Park at about 6:45 this morning – the food vendors have arrived, and continue to arrive and set up for the RiverFest. You can see the stage being erected (blown up) on the right.   Assigned spaces waiting to be filled. Some of the craft vendors setting up at around 8:00. 8:00ish – you can really see the stage now! I think this will be a “Bounce House.” A couple of spot filled now! Setting up on Water Street. More vendors displaying their wares. Treats In The Library!

We have had a very busy month here in the library! When I sat down to write this blog post, my plan was to only mention the various programs and events that happened in the Hazzard Reading Room.  Believe me there were several well attended events, but I would have missed several more, and the more included over 600 people!!!
